Winter is here..

Thursday, December 21st, 2006

I just found out something interesting about today. Today is what is known as the Winter’s Solstice. It is the shortest day of the year, when the sun is at its furthest south and also marks the official start of the winter season. It’s a good thing that I was able to buy some warm weather stuff yesterday (a bonnet, fleece jacket, a pair of gloves and 2 scarves) for cheap coz all the while I’ve been trying to get used to the cold, the worst is still to come.

So for those waiting for snow, patience my dears, its coming…Ü

Free call to the Philippines? Really?

Thursday, December 21st, 2006

Yes it’s true, I can call the Philippines from here for free. But not everyone, actually its just my old office in Marikina and Makati. It’s just something I discovered in my free time here (which is A LOT!!!). Here’s how..

I found out that I can call my former employer’s office which is based in Pennsylvania and dial the extension of my old colleagues in the Philippines. So it’s not an IDD call rather just NDD (NJ to PA). But that’s cheap already right? Here’s more..

I got me this USB phone for my PC and downloaded Skype. It is a VOIP program that allows you to call anyone in the US & Canada for free, that is until the end of the year. Next year may bayad na pero may promo sila $15 for the whole year. Anyway so using my Skype, I can call them from my PC technically for free.. Ain’t that the coolest thing or what!!Ü

So what’s next? One of these days, I’ll try to have my colleagues call our house and do a conference call. That way I can call home for free.. from the other side of the world.Ü "1, 2, 3…. Asteeeg!!!!"

Chocnut or Three Musketeers?

Thursday, December 14th, 2006

I was in a Filipino grocery in Jersey City the other day and while I was going around, not looking for anything in particular but just trying to see what stuff is in there, I see this pack of Chocnut on one side. I picked it up and looked at the price.. $1.09!? 55 pesos?! That’s the same price I paid for a pack of Three Musketeers a while back. Yeah the chocolates were on sale at that time but nevertheless, I think no one would have expected that the exchange rate for Chocnut and Three Musketeers would be almost 1:1!Ü No I did not buy it, I figured I’ll save my dollar something and spend it on Chocnut when (if?) I go back home to the Philippines. And to make sure that I’ll have them all to myself, I’ll give everyone else Three Musketeers.
